Shop My Front Porch: The Simple Black & White Entryway I’m Loving Right Now
If you’ve been looking for an easy way to give your front porch a designer look without spending a fortune, this setup is one of my favorite projects. I wanted something clean, timeless, and low-maintenance that would still make a statement from the street.
The combination of oversized black planters, bright pink blooms, and a classic black-and-white checkerboard rug completely transformed the entrance and took less than an hour to put together.
Here’s everything I used to recreate the look.
🖤 Oversized Black Planters
These tall black planters are the star of the porch. I love the modern tapered shape and how substantial they feel. Unlike lightweight plastic pots, these are sturdy enough that I never worry about them tipping over during windy days.
They also come in white if you prefer a brighter look, but the black pairs perfectly with dark doors and stone exteriors.
What I Love:
Modern high-end look
Heavy and sturdy construction
Built-in drainage hole with removable plug
Perfect height for front entryways
Available in multiple colors

Look how realistic the look
🌸 Realistic Faux Petunias
I wanted colorful flowers without the constant watering, deadheading, and replacing plants throughout the season. After trying several options, these faux petunias are by far the most realistic ones I’ve found.
The double pink color adds the perfect pop against the black planters and dark front door. They’re UV resistant, fade resistant, and hold up beautifully outdoors.
Why I Recommend Them:
Extremely realistic appearance
UV resistant for outdoor use
No watering or maintenance required
Available in several colors and sizes
Adds instant curb appeal

💡 My Easy Planter Hack
One of the questions I get most often is how I make the flowers sit perfectly in large planters without filling the entire pot with expensive filler.
My secret? Pool noodles.
I simply cut pool noodles to fit inside the planter, pushed them down into the pot, and inserted the flower stems directly into the holes of the noodles. The stems stay secure and upright, and I use far less filler than traditional methods.
Benefits of the Pool Noodle Trick:
Saves money on filler
Keeps stems standing upright
Lightweight and easy to adjust
Makes seasonal decorating quick and simple

♟️ Checkerboard Outdoor Rug
The checkerboard rug ties everything together and creates a custom designer look right at the front door. I layered a simple welcome mat on top for extra texture and dimension.
The black-and-white pattern works with nearly any home style, from modern farmhouse to contemporary.
Why I Love It:
Makes the porch feel finished
Durable for outdoor use
Easy to clean
Creates contrast against concrete
Instantly elevates curb appeal

Use matching planters on both sides of the door for symmetry.

Layer a welcome mat over a larger patterned rug.
Keep decor simple and let the planters be the focal point.

This is one of my favorite porch makeovers because it looks expensive, stays beautiful all season long, and requires almost zero maintenance. Sometimes a few oversized planters, colorful blooms, and a great rug are all you need to completely transform your entryway. ✨🏡
